Waunarlwydd RFC’s Rugby Tour to Chicago, San Antonio & Austin

Waunarlwydd RFC headed stateside for the tour of a lifetime, touching down in Chicago to kick off a transatlantic rugby journey that spanned three iconic American cities.  
The action started early with a physical fixture against local opposition in Chicago, followed by a well-earned day off to explore the Windy City’s sights and sounds. Memorial Day brought added significance to the trip, with the squad soaking up the atmosphere at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs hosted a Memorial Day game in front of a packed stadium.   
From there, the squad jetted south to San Antonio, immersing themselves in Texan culture before making the final hop across to Austin. A second fixture awaited, with the boys putting in a strong performance against the Austin Huns RFC before celebrating rugby the American way with their generous hosts. 

‘‘I think my favourite day was probably day Friday 31st. After an outstanding day at the Austin Huns, I didn’t think it could get much better, but we did the Longhorns stadium tour in the morning (sorted by Mark), a nice chilled couple of hours by the pool, and then our Kangaroo Court in a perfect setting (again sorted by Mark).  Following that we went onto possibly the best bar I’ve ever been to (piano bar in Austin) which Mark took us! It was like 4 days rolled into 1, and I know all the boys had a really good day! 

The welcome we received for both games was honestly amazing. Pre-game, during the game and especially post-game, we couldn’t of asked for any more!’

The final few days offered time to unwind in Austin’s vibrant scene, reflecting on a tour that delivered top-tier sport, unforgettable experiences, and lifelong memories.
