St David’s College Rugby Tour to Gibraltar
St David’s College in Llandudno embarked on an exciting rugby tour to Gibraltar, giving their players the chance to experience competitive fixtures in a unique international setting.
The sporting focus of the week began with training sessions at local facilities, where the players adjusted to the warmer climate and prepared for their upcoming fixtures.
Match day saw St David’s face a Gibraltar Select XV, offering the players a competitive challenge against a squad representing the local rugby community. Afterwards, the squad were able to connect with their hosts through the post-match hospitality that makes rugby touring so memorable.
Away from the pitch, the group explored the iconic Rock of Gibraltar, including the opportunity to get close to the famous Barbary macaques, the only free-ranging monkeys in Europe. The climb offered spectacular views across the bay and allowed the students to discover the history and geography of the territory in a way no classroom can replicate. That evening, the team enjoyed dinner and bowling at The Bastion, with plenty of laughter and friendly competition.
Later in the week, St David’s crossed the border into Spain to play their second fixture against Marbella RC. Playing in a different country added another layer of experience to the tour, exposing the players to a new playing style and a fresh environment.
From beach drills to bowling nights, and from Marbella matchday to meeting the macaques, every day offered something the players will carry with them long after returning to Llandudno.
