Neath Port Talbot College’s Childcare Services tour to Sri Lanka

Students from Neath Port Talbot College set off on a rewarding Childcare Services tour to Sri Lanka, combining cultural discovery with meaningful, hands-on learning.  

Arriving in Colombo, the group quickly settled into island life before heading to Negombo, where they began to explore the local community and gain their first insight into Sri Lankan culture and daily life. 
The tour took students inland to some of the country’s most iconic and historic locations. Highlights included climbing the breathtaking Sigiriya Rock Fortress and visiting the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple. In Kandy, the students experienced a vibrant city tour, explored the revered Temple of the Tooth, and enjoyed an evening cultural show, deepening their understanding of Sri Lanka’s rich heritage. 
The trip continued through lush tea plantations and rural landscapes, including a visit to a traditional Veddas village. Students gained valuable perspectives on different ways of life. 
Bentota, bought exciting opportunities to engage directly with childcare settings, including a visit to a local girls’ orphanage. 
A standout moment of the tour involved the Foundation of Goodness, where students contributed to community-led initiatives and interacted with local children. This hands-on experience brought their studies to life, helping them develop empathy, communication skills, and cultural awareness. Blending professional insights with unforgettable travel experiences, this tour offered a truly impactful and inspiring opportunity for all involved.
