Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby’s Netball Tour to Gibraltar

Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby embarked on an unforgettable netball tour to Gibraltar during October half term, taking both their U15 and U16 squads abroad.

Flying from Manchester Airport, they prepared for four days of development, bonding and adventure in one of the most distinctive destinations available for school sports travel.
Day one in Gibraltar saw the first of their structured training sessions at local facilities, where the players were able to familiarise themselves with the Mediterranean setting and warm conditions. Their training soon moved to the local beaches, giving the girls a refreshing and enjoyable twist. The day culminated in their first fixtures abroad, with both the U15 and U16 teams facing local opposition in competitive matches that set a strong tone for the tour.
The third day took the group away from the courts and to a full tour of The Rock. The encounter with the wild Barbary macaques proved a memorable highlight, as did the visit to St Michael’s Cave a dramatic natural chamber that fascinated the students and offered a contrast to the sporting focus of the previous day.
The next morning, the squad set off on a boat tour along the coastline for the chance to spot dolphins in their natural habitat. The experience was a standout moment, giving students the rare opportunity to see these animals up close while enjoying the views across the bay. In the afternoon, both teams once again took to the court against local opposition. These matches provided valuable learning moments and allowed the squads to apply the skills and teamwork they had developed throughout their time in Gibraltar.
For Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby, Gibraltar proved to be an ideal destination for a compact yet impactful school netball tour. The tour captured exactly what school sport travel aims to deliver: development, discovery and lifelong memories.
