Neath Port Talbot College’s multi sport tour to South Africa

In March 2026, rugby students from Neath Port Talbot College travelled to South Africa for an exciting and challenging tour that combined competitive rugby and netball with cultural and educational experiences.

The tour began in Cape Town, where students took in the views from Table Mountain, enjoyed a cultural evening at GOLD Restaurant, and visited the historic Robben Island to learn more about South Africa’s past. The group also visited Oranjezicht Market and experienced the incredible atmosphere of a live Stormers vs Dragons URC match at Cape Town Stadium.
The journey continued with a scenic Cape Peninsula tour, followed by visits to Cheetah Outreach and Stellenbosch University, giving students an insight into South African wildlife conservation and student life. The group also began their run of sports fixtures, competing three times each against local teams and winning 6/6 on the road.
Travelling along the Garden Route, students enjoyed a safari experience and visits to the Cango Caves and an ostrich farm, alongside another rugby fixture, creating a memorable mix of sport, adventure, and cultural discovery. These experiences allowed students to bond as a team while exploring some of South Africa’s most famous landscapes and attractions.
The final part of the tour took place in Johannesburg, where students visited the Voortrekker Monument, the Apartheid Museum and took part in a Soweto Township Tour, gaining a deeper understanding of the country’s history and communities. With four rugby fixtures and a wide range of cultural experiences, the tour provided a fantastic opportunity for both personal development and rugby performance.

“We had the privilege of taking 30 incredible students to South Africa to compete in rugby and netball, and to fully immerse ourselves in the culture, community, and spirit of such an amazing country. From the matches to the memories off the pitch, every single moment was special.”
