For the past week we’ve been celebrating all things Japan. Why? Because not only was the draw announced for the 2019 Rugby World Cup last Wednesday, but our Director Mark presented to more than 15 Japanese tourism delegates at the Japan Embassy in London on how to attract the UK sporting market. Impressive, right?
With such diverse culture and fast-moving technology, Japan fits into all three of our business prongs; sports tours, study tours and ski trips, meaning we have a wealth of tour types making the 5,500-mile trip east over the next couple of years. It’s no wonder we have nothing but good things to say about this country.

Let’s start with Rydal Penrhos School, who are preparing for a Japanese adventure of their own, heading to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ in December for their much-anticipated rugby tour. Their three-match trip- including home stays with Japanese students – will incorporate the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Yokohama, all in which boast their own plethora of unique attractions.
Mark Gardner, Director at MSG Tours said: “It’s all things ‘east’ as the boys head to Asia to take on Japan’s finest schools, featuring a match against the current national champions, Gyosei High School in Osaka. The players will travel to the ancient capital, Kyoto, after opening their touring encounter in arguably the world’s finest city, Tokyo.”
The Lakes School of Cumbria are also embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime educational trip to Japan in October, commencing in the stunning surroundings of Fukuoka with further visits to Hiroshima, Osaka and Tokyo in the itinerary. The 21-strong group will experience many sights across their 10-day trip, all in-keeping within their study curriculum. There’s a lot to be said for learning outside of the classroom.
From Japanese cuisine and Geisha dolls to streets lined with crepe stands, cat café’s and Hello Kitty inspired shops, it will be an experience like no other from the moment you touchdown in Japan.
If you had your heart set on a short-haul trip, then we’re afraid Japan won’t fall into that category. However, what will say is those extra few hours on a plane may well be worth it for the experience and adventure what awaits in Japan, a place short-haul countries quite simply cannot compete with. The ball’s in your court.
