REME BOOKING ANNOUNCEMENT!

2022 Military Booking Announcement

We are delighted to announce the Army’s Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) have secured three overseas tours to the USA with MSG.

REME Rugby Union are returning for their second tour (Washington and Richmond, Virginia) after previously visiting Australia and Malaysia

REME rugby huddleCaptain Steve Blanks commented:

After the two-year delay of our 1st team’s four-yearly rugby tour we are very much looking forward to facing our American cousins on the rugby pitch. We have a great military relationship with America and to face the U.S Marines in the first match is a great privilege. The REME toured Washington in 1985 and we hope to share our experiences with our Veterans who will no doubt relive great times.”

The male and female basketball groups are visiting Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans whilst the male and female football teams head to New Orleans and Miami.

Sergeant Martin Clarke from REME Basketball highlighted the importance of their trip:

“The REME Basketball Team is one of the most successful Corps teams within Army sport and has enjoyed tremendous success over the years. In order to continue this impressive record, the REME Basketball Committee plan to deploy the team on a sports tour to Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans.

The tour will strengthen existing, and forge new, relationships with the US Military. It’ll showcase the REME as a brand of the British Army within a sporting arena. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to conduct high intensity basketball to enhance the REME Basketball team capability for the foreseeable future.”

“America’s development of both men’s and women’s football makes this an exciting touring prospect for our male and female teams. This tour comes as a welcome change from the suppressed travel news in recent weeks. REME FA look forward to the touring opportunities the future brings alongside our travel partners at MSG.”  Major S Lamont, REME

We’d like to thank the Army Sports Lottery and the Army Sports Control Board for their help with the funding and administration of these tours.

Such visits give the opportunity to compete against opposition of a different culture and in many cases train and/or compete in challenging conditions. They can also be used to reward achievement and as a means of developing team spirit.

We wish them the best of luck with their tour. We can’t wait to see them in the USA next summer!
