MSG Partners with SKRUM Charity
Saturday 17th August 2019 featured MSG’s fourth annual ‘Sporting Saturday’ event at Cardiff’s Radisson Blu Hotel. Featuring speakers and guests from the global game of rugby, the occasion – sponsored by British Airways – welcomed the African rugby charity, SKRUM, as MSG’s official charity partner on the 2021 British and Irish Lions Tour to South Africa.
Based in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), SKRUM uses the game of rugby to engage children, at the same time educating participants about HIV/AIDS, inspiring better leadership in communities, raising awareness of gender violence and promoting the benefits of school and education through rugby’s core values:
RESPECT | DISCIPLINE | PASSION | SOLIDARITY | INTEGRITY
The event in Cardiff featured 260 guests who all contributed to raising £1,000 to assist the charity’s work in Eswatini through a raffle and obligatory pre-match ‘Head and Tails’ game. Jane Alexander Carr, Communications and Events Officer, joined us on the day to explain how the charity operates inside this landlocked country located four hours east of Johannesburg.
”On behalf of SKRUM, thank you for a fabulous day in Cardiff on Saturday. You put on a great event and have a lovely group of clients, so we were delighted to be involved. Thank you for choosing SKRUM and fundraising on our behalf.”
MSG Founder and managing director, Mark Gardner is excited about the partnership. ”Having visited Michael in Eswatini to learn first hand of the country’s socio-economic problems, it’s incredible to hear how these challenges are being overcome through the medium of rugby. It’s a pleasure to be supporting tourism to Eswatini that helps raise funds for the hard work and dedication of all associated with the SKRUM charity.”
