The UAE’s Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Club are famed for their incredible Junior Section that presently boasts over 800 boys and girls aged 4-19 years. With such a dedicated membership comes ambition for continuous development, exampled by the age groups’ commitment to touring overseas to enlighten their members’ playing and travel experiences.
We are delighted to have been selected by the U15 age group to handle their 2017 rugby tour to Georgia, one of Europe’s most exciting and rapidly-developing rugby hotbeds. In March 2017, 60 players and families will embark on an exciting and ground-breaking 3-match tour to Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Kiketi to complete against Georgian sides as part of an itinerary that presents the very best of this remarkable country.
With preparation and development firmly in mind the tourists will ready themselves for matches at the Georgia Rugby Union’s High Performance Centre, sessions taken by the hosts Academy staff.
In between matches lays in wait an insightful sightseeing programme featuring city tours of Tbilisi, trips to Bagrati Cathedral, Prometheus Caves, wine tasting (over 18’s!) and a 2-day post-rugby break at the excellent ski resort of Gudauri where players and parents can wind down on the groomed pistes prior to heading home to the UAE capital.
Dominic Whiting, the coach for Harlequins U15 had this to say about the upcoming tour; “We’re very excited about visiting Georgia for many reasons. We’d love to play a part, however small, in encouraging youth rugby in the country, and we’ve heard that clubs give touring teams a very warm welcome. And there’s so much to do away from the rugby — good food, wine tasting, skiing and hiking. It seems to offer something for everyone in our large group of players, parents and siblings.”
Our detailed destination planning, ably assisted through inspection trips through Turkish Airlines and our Georgian hotel and transportation partners, allows us to programme high-end and bespoke packages for clubs and schools that wish to take on rugby’s ultimate touring test.
